Every patient is a single sheet — and inside every sheet hides a crane.
Dr. Harshit Patel — MS (Gold Medalist), M.Ch Surgical Oncology (Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai), FALS robotic trained — brings apex-institute discipline home to Gujarat, delivered at human scale.
Why cancer surgery — and why here?
"I chose surgical oncology because it is where you meet people at their most frightened — and where skill, honesty and time can genuinely change how their story ends."
Training at Tata Memorial Hospital teaches two things at once. The first is technical: three years of nothing but cancer surgery, at the institute India sends its hardest cases to. The second is quieter but just as important — humility. You operate beside masters there, and you see how much outcome depends not only on the hands, but on listening, on judgement, on doing the right operation for the right person rather than the impressive one.
Nine years and more than five thousand operations later, my conviction has only grown: patients don't remember publications. They remember whether someone finally explained the disease in their own language, whether the plan made sense to them, and whether the phone was answered when something went wrong at midnight.
That is the practice built here in Ahmedabad and Vadodara: treating the person, not just the cancer — preserving voice, appearance, organs and dignity wherever oncology safely allows.
“We don’t discard the sheet.
We find the crane inside it.”
