Why cancer surgery — and why here?

Training at Tata Memorial Hospital teaches two things at once: the highest technical standard in the country, and humility — because you operate beside masters and still see how much outcomes depend on listening, on judgement, on doing the right operation for the right patient rather than the impressive one.

A kite stays up when the hand on the thread stays calm. After nine years and more than five thousand operations across nine specialities, that is how I try to practise: explain the disease in your own language, make a plan that makes sense, and answer the phone when it rings at midnight.
